Dr. Sajid Shokat - Editor-in-Chief's Profile

DR. SAJID SHOKAT

Dr. Sajid Shokat is having multi-years of experience in crop physiology breeding and genetics. He is currently working as senior scientist in Plant Breeding and Genetics division of Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology, Faisalabad Pakistan. Dr. Sajid has completed his PhD degree in Crop Sciences from University of Copenhagen, Denmark and awarded with diploma of excellence (best PhD thesis of 2021).  His PhD work was in collaboration with seed of discover program of CIMMYT where wheat pre-breeding, GWAS and physiology were the main focus. They successfully transferred genetic diversity of gene bank into the breeding pipelines of the globe. Moreover, Dr. Sajid has the experience to tackle large datasets of markers and applied modern pre-breeding approaches to improve the biotic and abiotic stresses and nutritional quality in bread wheat and rice.

Very recently, Dr. Sajid worked as consultant lecture in climate change project and consultant-mutation assisted breeding at plant breeding and genetics laboratory (PBGL) at joint FAO/IAEA laboratories, Seibersdorf Austria. They were involved in development of multi-parent advanced generation intercross (MAGIC) population, evaluation of sorghum mutants for water and nutrient use efficiency. Before becoming the editor-in-chief, he participated in 34 publications and one book chapters where 11 were as a first author. He is also reviewing grants of different European countries, editing manuscripts of many top ranked journals of plant sciences like, BMC Plant Biology, Frontiers in Genetics and Plant Breeding. Moreover, he also reviewed the manuscripts of many top-ranked journals. Additionally, Dr. Sajid has participated in external and internal research projects.
