Framing Analysis of Indian Muslims in Bollywood Movies
Abstract
Abstract Views: 0The current research attempted to examine the depiction of Indian Muslims in Bollywood films in the year 2012. The research questions were answered through a quantitative analysis of all the scenes involving Indian Muslims. The current research analyzed how Indian films portrayed Muslims by using both episodic and thematic structures. The variables and categories were developed in the context of episodic and thematic frames to assess the positive and negative depiction of Indian Muslims. The theory of framing believes that the thoughts of every individual are organized in a certain way. Intentional frames are created and sometimes the reader makes one of these frames for himself. The results showed that all three types of Indian Muslim characters—father, sister, and teacher—were portrayed negatively.
